The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a significant decision to prevent conflict of interest by restricting two prominent former cricketers from PSL roles. The move directly impacts their involvement with Quetta Gladiators.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has barred Wahab Riaz and Sarfaraz Ahmed from working in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), according to sources.
The decision has been taken as part of the board’s efforts to ensure transparency and avoid any potential conflict of interest.
Sources said both former cricketers have been restricted from working with Quetta Gladiators while serving as PCB employees. Wahab Riaz and Sarfaraz Ahmed were previously part of the Quetta Gladiators team management.
Current roles within PCB
Sarfaraz Ahmed currently serves as a member of the selection committee and is also associated as the head coach of the Test team. Meanwhile, Wahab Riaz is working with the Pakistan women’s team as a mentor.
The board’s decision comes after concerns were raised over dual responsibilities, as both individuals held roles within the PCB while also being linked to a PSL franchise.
Officials believe such overlapping roles could compromise fairness and decision-making.
Strengthening governance
The PCB’s step reflects a broader push to improve governance and maintain integrity in domestic cricket structures, particularly in high-profile tournaments like the PSL.
By separating official responsibilities from franchise involvement, the board aims to reinforce trust in its operations.
