At least seven workers were killed and three others injured after a landslide struck a marble mining site in Rustam Pulodhari area on Tuesday, rescue officials said.
The incident occurred during mining activities in the mountainous region of Rustam Pulodhari in Mardan’s tehsil Rustam.
According to initial reports, an explosion during marble extraction triggered a landslide, burying several workers under heavy debris.
Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately after the incident, deploying ambulances and heavy machinery to begin search and recovery efforts.
Officials confirmed that seven bodies have been recovered so far, while three injured workers were pulled out of the rubble and shifted to a nearby hospital.
Injured in critical condition
Rescue authorities said the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment.
At the time of the incident, 10 to 12 workers were reportedly present at the mining site.
Fears of more workers trapped
Rescue officials fear that more workers may still be trapped under the debris.
Search operations are ongoing to locate at least two more missing individuals, with teams continuing efforts despite challenging terrain.
Authorities are shifting the recovered bodies to hospitals while continuing the operation at the site.
Rescue sources confirmed that the death toll may rise if more victims are found beneath the rubble.
