Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi have jointly announced a five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Middle East, urging an immediate ceasefire.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, both countries have called for an immediate ceasefire to halt ongoing hostilities in the region.
The joint declaration stresses the need to prevent further escalation and ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid to war-affected areas.
Key points of joint initiative
1. Ceasefire and humanitarian access
Pakistan and China emphasized the urgent need to stop violence and allow relief efforts in conflict-hit regions.
2. Early peace talks and respect for sovereignty
Both countries urged all parties to begin peace negotiations without delay and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran and Gulf states.
They reiterated that diplomacy is the only viable solution, rejecting the use or threat of force.
3. Protection of civilians and infrastructure
The joint statement called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and non-military targets.
It also stressed safeguarding critical infrastructure such as:
- Energy facilities
- Desalination plants
- Power stations
- Peaceful nuclear installations
4. Security of shipping routes
Pakistan and China highlighted the importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global trade and energy supplies.
They demanded:
- Protection of ships and crews stranded in the region
- Immediate restoration of safe maritime traffic
- Secure passage for commercial and civilian vessels
5. Strengthening role of UN
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the United Nations Charter and international law.
They called for a stronger UN role in facilitating peace and ensuring compliance with global legal frameworks.
The initiative was announced following high-level consultations in Beijing, where Ishaq Dar held detailed discussions with Wang Yi at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
The two leaders reviewed the evolving Middle East situation, along with broader regional and global issues, including bilateral relations between Pakistan and China.
In parallel, Ishaq Dar also held a telephonic conversation with Hakan Fidan, discussing recent developments and regional stability efforts.
