Federal Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticized the United States following a resolution passed by the American House of Representatives and urged Washington to focus on making its own elections transparent before accusing other nations.
Reacting to the resolution, Asif highlighted that it is an election year in the US and noted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is very active there, implying that PTI members played a role in inciting the resolution against Pakistan. He asserted that PTI should be held accountable in both Parliament and the people's court.
Asif questioned the US's historical actions, asking how many democratic governments the US has overthrown in the past century and how many military coups it has supported. He referenced the millions of lives lost in Vietnam, South America, and the Middle East, and pointed to the destruction of nations like Libya, Iraq, and Syria.
The Defense Minister accused the US of being a major facilitator of massacres and genocide in Palestine and urged America to review its 100-year record on democracy before making demands on Pakistan. He also highlighted the current situation in Gaza, suggesting that the US, as a superpower, should act with a superpower's responsibility and integrity.
Furthermore, Asif reminded that Russia was accused of influencing the 2016 US elections and noted that former President Trump refused to accept the results of the 2020 election when President Biden won.
