OpenAI has officially discontinued its AI video generator, Sora, less than two years after its launch.
The closure has sparked a wave of content creators and filmmakers moving to a new generation of AI tools that now dominate the text-to-video market.
With Sora’s exit, several advanced alternatives have emerged. Google’s Veo 3.2/Flow leads the field for cinematic realism, offering native 4K resolution at 60fps along with built-in audio generation. Kling AI 3.0 has gained popularity for producing stable, consistent videos of up to two minutes, making it well-suited for narrative storytelling.
Runway Gen-4.5 is considered the most professional-grade option for AI video creation, while InVideo AI excels in social media and marketing videos through script-to-video tools. HeyGen specializes in photorealistic corporate avatars, catering to business users. For developers and privacy-conscious creators, the open-source Genmo Mochi-1 allows local execution on high-end hardware.
Most of these alternatives offer free tiers, making it easier for creators to experiment and produce AI-generated video content. The shift highlights the growing specialization and innovation in the AI video generation space following Sora’s exit.
