Technology company Apple is set to introduce advertisements on its Apple Maps app in the United States and Canada later this year.
The company announced on Tuesday that sponsored content will appear above organic search results within the mapping application. However, Apple has not yet disclosed any details regarding expected revenue from this new advertising initiative.
It also did not specify how many users actively use the Maps service out of its 2.5 billion active devices worldwide.
Analyst Gil Luria said the introduction of ads in Apple Maps could create an additional revenue stream for the company’s services business. He noted that Apple already generates a significant portion of its profits from services, and this move could further support its growth.
