A powerful cyclone in Australia transformed the sky into a deep red hue, creating dramatic and unsettling scenes across parts of Western Australia.
Videos emerging from Shark Bay on Friday showed how strong winds rapidly darkened the daytime sky within minutes. Gusts lifted massive clouds of iron-rich dust into the air, turning the sky an intense red and orange while reducing visibility to near zero.
Reports indicated that in several areas, breathing became difficult due to the dust in the air, as the atmosphere took on an unusual and almost apocalyptic appearance. Witnesses described the scene as “unreal,” saying it felt as though the world had suddenly changed.
Experts explained that such phenomena occur when powerful winds lift soil rich in iron oxide into the atmosphere. The particles scatter sunlight in a way that produces the striking red coloration, often seen during severe dust storms associated with cyclones.
