Fakhar Zaman has formally appealed his two-match suspension after being penalised for an alleged ball-tampering incident during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match.
The Pakistan Super League Technical Committee is now set to review Fakhar Zaman’s appeal against the ban.
The suspension was imposed after he was found guilty of a Level 3 breach related to ball tampering during a match against Karachi Kings.
Fakhar has consistently denied the allegations, including during the initial hearing before match referee Roshan Mahanama.
What happened during match
The controversy unfolded in the final over, when Karachi Kings needed 14 runs to win.
Fakhar Zaman, along with captain Shaheen Afridi and pacer Haris Rauf, was seen exchanging the ball during a brief on-field discussion.
Umpires inspected the ball and, after consultation, awarded five penalty runs to Karachi Kings and replaced the ball.
The penalty proved decisive, as Karachi chased down the target with three balls to spare.
PCB charges and disciplinary action
The Pakistan Cricket Board charged Fakhar under Article 2.14 (Level 3 breach) and Article 41.3 of the PSL code, both relating to altering the condition of the ball.
Following proceedings, the PCB confirmed a two-match suspension, ruling him out of games against Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.
Separately, Karachi Kings’ pacer Hasan Ali was fined 10% of his match fee for a code of conduct breach, which he accepted.
Speaking after the match, Shaheen Afridi said the team would review video footage before commenting further.
“I don’t know about this, and we’ll see if it’s there on camera and discuss it,” he said.
