In a move aimed at improving convenience for industrial consumers and optimizing electricity usage, the Power Division is considering introducing a new optional multi-tariff system.
The plan would allow industries to pay different rates depending on the time electricity is consumed.
Under the proposed system, fixed electricity charges will be calculated based on maximum demand, while variable rates will apply depending on peak and off-peak hours.
Industries will be encouraged to shift electricity-intensive operations to off-peak times, which is expected to reduce demand during peak hours and ease pressure on the national grid.
Stakeholder consultation planned
The Power Division has decided to engage stakeholders before finalizing the system. The first online consultation conference is scheduled for Thursday, where feedback from industrial consumers and other stakeholders will be sought.
The division emphasized that the multi-tariff system would remain optional, giving industries the flexibility to choose the plan that best suits their operations.
