Indian media outlets have acknowledged a significant shift in regional diplomacy, admitting that Pakistan’s strategic engagement has challenged India’s foreign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to reports in Indian publications, Pakistan’s diplomacy has shaken India’s foreign policy framework.
Indian journal The Wire noted that Islamabad has “defeated the Modi government on every front,” admitting that Pakistan’s practical diplomacy has exposed the “lofty claims” of New Delhi.
The report suggests that Pakistan’s approach has outperformed India’s in key geopolitical arenas. Indian media acknowledged that Pakistan has emerged as a crucial mediator between the United States and Iran.
The Wire reported that Washington has increasingly recognized Islamabad’s importance in the Middle East, choosing to engage Pakistan over India in sensitive regional matters.
It further stated that Pakistan enjoys the trust of both Washington and Tehran — a rare diplomatic balance that India has struggled to achieve.
India’s isolation strategy ‘fails’
India’s long-standing strategy to diplomatically isolate Pakistan has “failed miserably,” according to The Wire. The report added that the United States has begun to trust Pakistani leadership more, while gradually sidelining New Delhi in critical discussions.
Indian analysts also pointed out that global perceptions have shifted, with some viewing Modi as overly aligned with Israel and the United States.
Criticism of India’s foreign policy
Indian commentary suggested that India’s perceived “subservience” to Washington has weakened its strategic autonomy and reduced its regional influence. The Wire noted that American policymakers now largely view India as a buyer of arms rather than a key strategic partner.
It also stated that India remains focused on meeting its energy needs, while Pakistan is actively shaping the agenda for regional stability.
Pakistan builds regional alliances
Reports highlighted the growing influence of a diplomatic bloc comprising Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, which is said to have sidelined India from West Asian leadership discussions.
This shift has raised concerns in India about its declining role in the region.
Indian media also warned that India’s multibillion-dollar investment in Iran’s Chabahar port could be at risk amid changing regional dynamics. The reports suggest that Pakistan’s rising diplomatic profile may further complicate India’s strategic and economic interests.
Pakistan’s diplomacy gains global recognition
The Wire acknowledged that Pakistan’s “successful diplomacy has won the day,” marking a notable shift in regional influence. It also remarked that the country once dismissed by Modi as unimportant has now emerged as a “guarantor of world peace.”
At the same time, Indian commentary concluded that Modi’s strategy has led to India’s growing isolation on the global stage.
