The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has tightened its social media policy following a controversy involving fast bowler Naseem Shah. The move signals stricter oversight of players’ online activity and tougher penalties for violations.
The PCB has introduced tighter controls on players’ social media use after Naseem Shah’s controversial tweet, according to sources.
Under the revised policy, players will now be required to obtain prior permission from the PCB Media Department before posting any content online.
Centrally contracted players issued warning
All centrally contracted players have been formally reminded of the board’s social media guidelines. They have also been instructed to strictly implement the policy, with clear directions to avoid any controversial or inappropriate posts.
Sources say players have been warned that controversial posts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The PCB has emphasized strict compliance, signaling a zero-tolerance approach toward content that could damage the board’s image or create public controversy.

The board has extended its instructions beyond players, reminding their managers of the same social media guidelines. This step aims to ensure that all individuals involved in managing players’ public image adhere to the updated rules.
Heavy fines for violations
To enforce compliance, the PCB has introduced strict penalties for violations of the policy. Cricketers could face fines of at least Rs10 million if found posting controversial content without approval.
The policy tightening comes in the wake of a controversial social media post by Naseem Shah, which prompted the board to take corrective measures. Officials believe stricter regulation is necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
