US President Donald Trump has issued a stern statement on ongoing negotiations with Iran, terming the conduct of Iranian negotiators as unusual and strange, warning that failure to show seriousness could lead to a point of no return.
In a message on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran has suffered severe military losses and no longer holds a real opportunity to regain strength, urging it to engage in talks with seriousness.
He said Iran was giving the public impression that it was merely reviewing the US proposal, whereas the reality, he said, was otherwise.
Trump warned that if Iran did not act with urgency, the situation could enter a stage from which return would not be possible, with consequences likely to be severe.
Earlier, addressing a convention of the Republican Party, the US president claimed Iranian leaders were keen to reach an agreement but remained unable to do so due to fear of internal and external repercussions.
He said Iranian leaders feared for their safety if they openly supported a deal, and also feared consequences if an agreement was not reached.
Trump added that all Iranian leaders aspired to become president, recounting that one leader had expressed no desire to become Supreme Leader.
He claimed that the United States was close to concluding the war in Iran, stating that B-2 bombers had destroyed Iranian nuclear installations, as well as its navy and air force.
Trump said former president Barack Obama had enabled Iran’s ambition to acquire nuclear weapons, but that ambition would fail.
The US president also said he had stopped eight wars and was winning another, adding that despite the widespread false reporting, he had secured electoral victory.
