India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has come under sharp criticism at home over recent undiplomatic remarks directed at Pakistan, raising questions about diplomatic conduct and policy.
According to details surfaced on Thursday, the statement emerged at a time when Pakistan has been playing a notable role in diplomatic contacts involving the United States and Iran, drawing attention to shifting regional engagements.
Opposition leaders in India have criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the remarks.
Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed described the comments as a diplomatic failure, stating that Pakistan’s selection for talks with Iran, while India remained absent, reflected poorly on the government.
