Leading Pakistani singer Sahir Ali Bagga has suggested that Indian songs should be banned in Pakistan, citing ongoing restrictions on Pakistani artists and content in India.
His remarks, made in a recent BBC interview, have sparked widespread discussion on social media.
In the interview, Bagga explained the reasoning behind his statement. “I talked about banning Indian songs in Pakistan because whenever there is a dispute, they immediately ban our artists, content, and other things,” he said.
He highlighted the imbalance in digital platforms, noting that Pakistani Spotify remains blocked in India, while Indian Spotify continues to operate in Pakistan without restrictions.
Pakistan has never initiated bans
Bagga emphasized that Pakistan has historically not banned Indian content. “We have never banned Indian content, but the initiative in this is always taken by India,” he said, reinforcing his call for a reciprocal approach in response to Indian restrictions.
The video clip of Bagga’s interview is going viral online, with many social media users expressing support for his opinion. The discussion has sparked debate among music fans and industry insiders about the fairness of cross-border content restrictions.
